Dear Parent/Carer

Update
The college will be closed for most pupils on Thursday and Friday this week and Monday next week. There continues to be a problem with the gas supply to the College. Work to repair this has commenced but is complex and requires a new supply to our gas meter. This involves groundworks at the front of the college. We have been advised by the local authority that this work should be completed by the end of the day on Monday.

Thursday 2 & Friday 3 February 2023
All of Year 11 and a small number of invited pupils are returning to site. This will give all Year 11 pupils the opportunity to continue with their remaining scheduled mock examinations. A copy of the letter which was sent to Year 11 is outlined below.

· We ask that all pupils/staff enter via the Community Entrance as the area around Visitor Reception is cordoned off and out of bounds. No visitors are permitted on site at present. Pupils will be instructed where to go on arrival.

· Pupils are permitted to wear warm and comfortable clothes.

· Year 11 pupils should remember to bring all their equipment with them including a calculator and ruler please. If any Year 11 pupil does not attend their exam, this will have to be recorded as an absence and there will be no opportunity to sit the exam at a later date.

· There will be sufficient heated rooms, food and toilets for those pupils on site.

· Buses to and from the college will be running as usual.

Year 7 to Year 10
These pupils will continue to receive live lessons at home. The only exception to this is where certain teachers have been redeployed to work with Year 11 or there is a staff absence. In these cases, cover work will be provided. Please ask your child to check their Google classroom each period for any work which has been set.

Monday 6 February 2023
The examinations for Year 11 on this date are PE, Sociology and Music. More information about the arrangements for Monday will be sent later this week.

Once again, we apologise for the inconvenience and wish to reassure you that we are working as hard as possible with the local authority and the gas engineers to resolve the situation.

Kind regards

R K Jonathan

Dear Parent/Carer

I am writing to give you brief update about the situation as of this afternoon.

The gas leak hasn’t been fully located but has been made safe. We still have no definitive timescale with regard to a full repair.

Therefore, pupils should remain at home and access their live lessons.

We will update you further tomorrow.

Kind regards

R K Jonathan

I am writing to update you on the situation on site as at this afternoon.
The gas leak hasn’t been fully located but has been made safe. We have no definitive timescale with regard to a full repair, so we are still without gas heating or a fully functioning kitchen.
However, we are going to prioritise Year 11 mock exam completion and controlled assessment over the next few days. We are in the fortunate position of being able to make the site warm and safe with an appropriate food provision for this limited number of pupils.

Swanmore College is now a Unicef Silver Rights Aware School.

Our school is explicitly embedding the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child in its policy, practice and culture.
We are promoting knowledge and understanding of the Convention throughout our school community.
We are putting into action and developing the plans outlined on our Action Plan for Silver, which we submitted to achieve Bronze: Rights Committed.
We are beginning to see the positive impact of these actions on children and young people, staff, and on the school’s ethos, practice and environment.
Children and young people are beginning to see themselves as rights respecting global citizens and advocates for fairness and children’s rights, both locally and globally.
