Online Google Meet lessons – a guide for pupils

Using a Windows or Mac Desktop Computer

If using Google Meet from a Windows or Mac desktop we recommend the pupils make sure they use the very latest version of Microsoft Edge or if that is not possible then the latest version of Google Chrome. These are obtained freely on the internet from these sites:

Microsoft Edge – www.microsoft.com/en-us/edge

Google Chrome – www.google.co.uk/chrome/

Within your internet browser open www.google.co.uk and click on the 9 dots top right and select Classroom. Or type classroom.google.com into the browser address bar as shown below.

Note: You must be logged into your school google account in order to access your classrooms.

Open the required classroom as per your timetable. If a Google Meet link has been added to your classroom this will indicate that the teacher is broadcasting. You will see a Meet link within the classroom banner as shown below on the classroom stream page.

I cannot see a link

If you do not see a link in the banner then check to see if a video resource has been added instead to that classroom.

Click on this link to open the Google Meet session and follow the onscreen instructions.

If you wish to provide audio feedback you will need to attach a microphone to your computer unless you are using a laptop with a built in microphone.

Using a Mobile Device

If you are using Google Meet on a mobile device i.e. Tablet or Smartphone then please ensure you have installed the very latest versions of both Google Classroom and Google Meet.

Important note: If you already have these apps installed please check for updates for BOTH Google Classroom and Google Meet.

On you mobile device open the Classroom app.

Note: You must be logged into your school google account in order to access your classrooms.

Open the required classroom as per your timetable. If a Google Meet link has been added to your classroom this will indicate that the teacher is broadcasting. You will see a small camera icon at the top of the app window as shown below

I cannot see a link

If you do not see a camera icon then check to see if a video resource has been added instead to that classroom.

Press this to open the Google Meet session and follow the onscreen instructions.

Using a Chromebook

Log into your Chromebook using your school google account.

Within the chromebook browser type classroom.google.com into the address bar as shown below.

Note: You must be logged into your school google account in order to access your classrooms.

Open the required classroom as per your timetable. If a Google Meet link has been added to your classroom this will indicate that the teacher is broadcasting. You will see a Meet link within the classroom banner as shown below on the classroom stream page.
