Awards & Accreditations

At Swanmore College we strive to gain awards and accreditations as part of our ongoing quality management systems. Below are some of the awards and accreditations we are working hard to achieve.

We are delighted to announce that Swanmore College has been awarded a Green Flag Award by Eco-Schools. Eco-Schools is operated by Keep Britain Tidy and their Green Flag accreditation acknowledges, rewards and celebrates the ecological achievements of our pupils who attend the Eco Champions extracurricular lunchtime club. 

This group cares deeply about environmental issues and has a strong desire to actively protect our planet. Where environmental issues such as climate change, biodiversity loss, or plastic pollution are enormous global issues, the Eco-Schools programme enables them to make changes in the College and their everyday lives, and influence those around them.


Beacon School in Holocaust Education

Swanmore College was awarded Beacon School status in July 2023. Every year, the UCL Centre for Holocaust Education looks to recruit up to 15 secondary schools in England committed to enhancing teaching and learning about the Holocaust. UCL Beacon Schools in Holocaust Education are committed to the view that the Holocaust is a critically important part of young people’s education while appreciating the complex challenges that the Holocaust raises as a school subject. These schools become dynamic hubs and local leaders in teaching and learning about the Holocaust, through sustained research-informed professional development in Holocaust education.

Unicef Rights Respecting School- Gold: Rights Respecting

Swanmore College is now a Unicef Gold Rights Respecting School.

Our school has explicitly adopted a child rights approach based on the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child and has embedded it in the College's policy, practice and culture.

The College community has a thorough understanding of child rights, and rights respecting attitudes and language is embedded across the school. 

The Rights Respecting Schools Award has had a positive impact on our pupils' learning and wellbeing.

Pupils see themselves as rights respecting global citizens and are advocates for social justice, fairness and children’s rights, both locally and globally.


 

The Ethnic Minority and Traveller Achievement Service (EMTAS)

The Ethnic Minority and Traveller Achievement Service (EMTAS) has conferred a Gold award on Swanmore in recognition of the support they give their pupils who have English as an additional language.   This covers five broad areas: Leadership and Management; Pedagogy and Practice; Data; Assessment and Progress; Teaching and Learning; and Parental and Community Engagement.  This demonstrates that Swanmore College is working towards full support for their pupils who speak, or have access to, another language at home.


Excellence in Pupil Development Award (EPDA)

Our aim at Swanmore College is to provide an excellent academic education and experience for all pupils regardless of their prior ability. We aim to ensure that pupils leave Swanmore ready for the next stage of their education and life regardless of what that may be. We do this by supporting pupils to become resilient, inquisitive and independent learners ready to take control of their own education and lives.

We at Swanmore College are proud to have achieved the Excellence in Pupil Development Award, which aims to develop pupils’ character, value and skills to ensure they become independent, active and responsible learners.

This award offers a structured framework to evaluate and enrich our pastoral curriculum. It supports us in developing pupils’ personal attributes and attitudes, such as self-confidence, resilience and self-discipline. With a focus on involving local and national organisations, it helps us to prepare pupils for life in modern Britain.

This has been achieved in the following ways:

  • Curriculum – Embedding the knowledge and skills for personal development are into the whole-school curriculum.
  • Behaviour – Setting high expectations for pupil behaviour and conduct, including punctuality and attendance.
  • Responsible citizens – Promoting positive attitudes from pupils towards their own learning, towards each other, and towards the wider community.
  • Local partnerships – Engaging with local groups and parents to deliver enrichment activities that develop pupils’ confidence, responsibility and leadership skills.
  • External organisations – Actively enlisting the support of national and international agencies to help raise pupils’ aspirations for their future.
  • Professional development – Committing to high-quality, ongoing staff CPD so that all staff can build and support pupils’ personal development.

Wellbeing Award for Schools (WAS)

Everyone has mental health.  Feelings of well-being are fundamental to the overall health for all individuals.

Here at Swanmore, we believe that everyone has a responsibility for their own and each other’s well-being.

It is our vision at Swanmore to create a community where we have no fear of failure.  By working together and applying our core values, we will collaborate using innovative strategies to challenge prejudice and stigma and establish a safe and secure community for all.

We believe through the power of optimism and resilience that we will build a whole community approach based on being heard, accepted, valued and empowered.
