Uniform update

Image shows the Swanmore College logo with the headline uniform update

As we move towards the end of this academic year, it is important to remind everyone of the uniform expectations at Swanmore College and some changes for September 2024. Ensuring that pupils adhere to the uniform policy is important as it promotes a sense of belonging and equality amongst our pupils.

We are delighted to say that most pupils wear their Swanmore College uniform correctly and take pride in doing so. We would like to take this opportunity to thank them and you for supporting us with this.

Details of the correct uniform, with examples and pictures of what is permitted, will be updated here on our website before the end of this term and we will inform you when this has been done. You can view the current uniform details here - https://www.swanmore-school.co.uk/information/uniform

Key Uniform Expectations
We would like to highlight a few key points regarding our uniform policy:

  • Leggings: Pupils are expected to wear tailored trousers or skirts. Black tailored trousers (no jeans or leggings of any type, no tight-fitting/lycra, no flares or large buckled belts).
  • Trainers: Only formal black shoes, with a heel, are permitted. Trainers or shoes which look like trainers are not acceptable uniform.
  • Socks: Only black socks are permitted for normal uniform and PE.

Uniform Checks
To ensure compliance with our uniform policy, we have been conducting uniform checks since Monday, 01 July 2024 and will continue to do so over the next 2 weeks. Following the uniform checks, if a pupil is wearing incorrect trousers or trainers, we will write to you to make you aware of the uniform infringement so that you have time to correct it over the summer holidays in readiness for September.

Whilst we understand that you may not wish to replace uniform in July, it is important for pupils to be dressed appropriately for the new academic year. In September, we will be conducting weekly, whole-year group uniform checks and if a pupil is wearing incorrect uniform, we will be asking pupils to borrow clean uniform for the day. If they refuse, they will be sent to the Learning Hub.

Throughout the academic year, we will continue to conduct regular uniform checks and address any infringements. Positive ICC points will be awarded to pupils in correct uniform.

PE Kit

PE uniform will be strictly enforced when pupils return in September. We will be carrying out PE uniform checks in the next couple of weeks along with the uniform checks. Letters will be sent home regarding any PE kit infringements, so you are aware and have time to correct uniform in readiness for September.

  • PE Kits: Swanmore PE T-shirts only and plain black bottoms with no logos
  • Hoodies: From September, the Swanmore College hoodies are being phased out and these will be banned completely from September 2025. No other hoodies are permitted.
  • Socks: Socks must be black

Please take a moment to review our uniform policy with your child and ensure they have the correct items for September.
