Swanmore College Election Results
With a General Election taking place, pupils took part in an election during Tutor. The results are now in!
During Tutor period, pupils were shown information from each major political party's manifestos and discussed First Past the Post and Proportional Representation systems. They then voted anonymously. Votes were counted to show:
- The most popular Party in the tutor group (their Constituency) - first past the post
- How many votes each Party got which went towards the Proportional Representation results
This was a fantastic opportunity for pupils at Swanmore College to vote in a mock election. It links to British Values and when the next election takes place a lot of our current pupils might be voting themselves!

How did Tutors ensure political impartiality was maintained?
The law states that teachers must not promote partisan political views and should offer a balanced overview of opposing views when political issues are taught. Pupils were shown slides about voting, how votes are counted and with key information from each major party's manifesto, this way they all got the same message. Then if pupils had any questions they were encouraged to scan the QR codes that would take them to the parties' websites and have a look at the different manifestos themselves rather than being told the answers.
