Our PE department has a broad and balanced curriculum for students to experience. To ensure the comfort of participants and team ethos, we are planning on making a few adjustments to the Kit in the following year.
Please note these changes will come into play from September 2024.
Socks: Only black socks are acceptable from September 2024.
Hoodie: From September 2024, standard outerwear will be the new Swanmore College quarter zip-up top, our Swanmore College hoodie (for Years 8-11 only) or a plain black sweatshirt. Plain black hoodies will no longer be acceptable.
For all Year 7 pupils, the Swanmore College quarter zip-up top or a plain black sweatshirt are compulsory.
The old Swanmore College hoodie will not be permitted from September 2025.
Our PE kit caters for all types of weather, especially when it is cold. If a student has an underlayer or base layer, a Swanmore PE t-shirt and a ¼ Zip/Sweatshirt then this will keep them warm enough, allowing them to participate in physical activity safely. No student will be allowed to wear a coat for their lesson.
Footwear: Astro turf trainers are the most important item of footwear for PE lessons because they can be worn in any of our facilities. If trainers (i.e. not Astro turf trainers) are worn for PE lessons, they must be sports trainers, and they can only be worn for lessons in the Sports Hall, Gym, Courts, Fitness Suite and Field. Flat-soled trainers are not acceptable.
Health and Safety notice – It is compulsory for students to wear shin pads when participating in a football lesson and attending after-school clubs. Goalkeeper gloves will also be used for students in goal. The PE Department will have supplies for students to use.
Please note if students are playing football on the STP or MUGA at break or lunchtime that we recommend that they wear shin pads. Any student playing dangerously e.g slide tackling will be asked to leave the facility.
Pupils must wear clean, correct PE kit every lesson (even when ill or injured) so they can take an active part in the lesson and fully participate once they return to full health. This way, College uniform is not damaged whilst standing on muddy pitches and any illness won’t worsen as pupils will have dry uniform to change back into. Only at the College’s discretion ie severe injury or illness, may this rule not apply.
Students who do not have the correct Swanmore PE kit for lessons will be expected to borrow kit (that has been washed) from the PE department, and they will receive a kit mark. If a student receives three kit marks in a half term, they will be submitted to the Learning Hub. Kit marks restart each half term.
Physical education is compulsory – only in exceptional circumstances will alternative arrangements be made for pupils. Pupils will remain with their teaching groups and participate in the role of coach or official (scorer, timekeeper or manager) for the activity as is evident in the professional world of sport.
Finally, non-participation due to any injury and illness requires a note, as well as kit. Any notes to excuse participation should be written as a letter and handed to your child’s teacher at the beginning of the lesson. We ask that these letters are signed and dated by the Parent/ Carer.
