Swanmore Sports Roundup: Weeks Commencing 25 February and 03 March 2025

These past two weeks have been packed with sporting achievements and engaging literacy week activities.

Literacy Week: Sporting Heroes and Villains

During Literacy Week (week commencing 03 March), the PE Department took the opportunity to explore the themes of heroes and villains within the sporting world. Each day, we highlighted a different figure:

Monday: Sir Chris Hoy (Hero)

An 11-time world champion, Olympic medallist, and UNICEF Ambassador, Sir Chris embodies dedication and positive impact.

Tuesday: Australian Cricket Team (Villains)

We examined the ethical breaches of Steve Smith, David Warner, and Cameron Bancroft, highlighting the importance of integrity in sports.

Wednesday: Serena Williams (Hero)

A champion for equality and a philanthropist, Serena Williams' achievements extend far beyond the tennis court.

Thursday: Lance Armstrong (Villain)

We discussed the consequences of doping and the importance of fair play, using Lance Armstrong's story as a cautionary tale.

Friday: Sadio Mane (Hero)

We celebrated Sadio Mane's remarkable contributions to his community, showcasing his commitment to education and development.

Sporting Achievements

Year 11 Boys Football

Last week (w/c 25 February), our Year 11 boys football team triumphed over Westgate with a 3-1 victory in a league and cup double-header. This win propels them into the District Cup Final. Goals were scored by Eddie, Jamie, and Dan. We wish them the best of luck in the final!

This week (w/c 03 March), our year 11 boys played Thornden School in a league match and won 4-3. Goals scored by Tyler, Jamie, Dan and Henry.

Year 7 Boys Football

On Tuesday, 25 February, our Year 7 boys football team played friendly matches against Mountbatten and Toynbee Schools. The team learnt valuable lessons about determination and effort, with Max scoring for Swanmore.

Year 10 Boys Football

On Tuesday, 04 March, our Year 10 boys football team delivered a dominant performance against Perins School, winning 9-0. Igor scored four goals, Jack scored three, and Riley scored two.

On Thursday, 06 March, the Year 10 boys played Perins again - the second league encounter between the teams this week. They performed well, winning 7-2. Igor scored 3 goals, Jack scored 2, and Luca and Josiah scored 1 each.
