Swanmore Sports Roundup: Weeks Commencing 25 February and 03 March 2025

These past two weeks have been packed with sporting achievements and engaging literacy week activities.
Literacy Week: Sporting Heroes and Villains
During Literacy Week (week commencing 03 March), the PE Department took the opportunity to explore the themes of heroes and villains within the sporting world. Each day, we highlighted a different figure:
Monday: Sir Chris Hoy (Hero)
An 11-time world champion, Olympic medallist, and UNICEF Ambassador, Sir Chris embodies dedication and positive impact.
Tuesday: Australian Cricket Team (Villains)
We examined the ethical breaches of Steve Smith, David Warner, and Cameron Bancroft, highlighting the importance of integrity in sports.
Wednesday: Serena Williams (Hero)
A champion for equality and a philanthropist, Serena Williams' achievements extend far beyond the tennis court.
Thursday: Lance Armstrong (Villain)
We discussed the consequences of doping and the importance of fair play, using Lance Armstrong's story as a cautionary tale.
Friday: Sadio Mane (Hero)
We celebrated Sadio Mane's remarkable contributions to his community, showcasing his commitment to education and development.
