Your input please - our new Attendance Policy

We highly value the input of our parents and carers, and we are keen to hear your thoughts on the draft Attendance policy.

At Swanmore College, we believe that regular school attendance is crucial for the educational progress and overall wellbeing of our pupils. We have recently drafted a new attendance policy aimed at ensuring all pupils have the opportunity to benefit from consistent school attendance.

Please take the time to review the draft attendance policy, as attached. We invite you to share your feedback by emailing attendance@swanmore-sec.hants.sch.uk

Key points from the policy are below:

  • Report all absences on ClassCharts before 8am with the reason for the absence where possible and attach medical evidence where applicable.
  • Applying for leave of absence during term time must be done in writing to the Headteacher at least a month before the planned leave (see Appendix 2).
  • A penalty notice request or a referral for prosecution may be submitted to the Local Authority should:
    •  The parent fails to submit a leave of absence request in advance of taking the leave.
    •  An application for a leave of absence is not agreed by the Headteacher but is still taken.
    • A longer period is taken more than the agreed number of days.
  • See Appendix 1 for further details regarding the issuance of Penalty Notices and fines.
  • Appendix 4 is an Attendance Policy Quick Guide for Parents/Carers
