Extra kit:

Football boots & waterproof jacket as required. Long black/white football socks are recommended so shin pads stay in place. Your child may also require a gum shield for contact sports.

Hair:

Hair must be tied back for PE.

Jewellery:

Jewellery can be very dangerous when participating in PE and must not be worn at all.

Our PE department has a broad and balanced curriculum for students to experience. To ensure the comfort of participants and team ethos, we are planning on making a few adjustments to the Kit in the following year. Please note these changes won’t come into play until September 2024.

Socks:  Black and White Socks are acceptable presently – we will be moving to just Black socks in September 2024.

Hoodie:  From September 2024 our Swanmore College Hoodie as well as a new Swanmore College Quarter Zip Up Top will be standard issue outerwear. Plain Black Hoodies will no longer be acceptable.

As part of a Health and Safety review in PE recently, we would like to make you aware of the following:

Football:

It is now compulsory that pupils wear shin pads when playing any form of football at Swanmore College and are wearing goalkeeper gloves when in goal (lessons/clubs/break and lunch). In PE lessons the wearing of shin pads and goalkeeper gloves will be compulsory. From January 2024, kit marks will be issued for pupils who do not have this equipment. We would also recommend that long white/black socks are worn when wearing shin pads.

When using the MUGA and STP at break/lunch times, pupils are strongly advised to wear shin pads when using these facilities, but from January 2024 no pupil will be allowed access to these facilities if they do not have the required safety equipment (shin pads and goalkeeper gloves). Any pupil seen acting in a dangerous manner (e.g. slide tackling) will be asked to leave the facility.

Rugby:

It is now compulsory for all pupils participating in contact Rugby to wear a gum shield. You child’s PE teacher will ensure that they know when this equipment will be needed.

Physical education is compulsory – only in exceptional circumstances will alternative arrangements be made for pupils. Pupils will remain with their teaching groups and participate in the role of coach or official (scorer, timekeeper or manager) for the activity as is evident in the professional world of sport.

Finally, non-participation due to any injury and illness requires a note, as well as kit. Any notes to excuse participation should be written as a letter and handed to your child’s teacher at the beginning of the lesson. We ask that these letters are signed and dated by the Parent/ Carer.
