Headteacher Update – Y11 Only – 31.01.23

Dear Parent/Carer

I am writing to update you on the situation on site as at this afternoon.

The gas leak hasn’t been fully located but has been made safe.  We have no definitive timescale with regard to a full repair, so we are still without gas heating or a fully functioning kitchen.

However, we are going to prioritise Year 11 mock exam completion and controlled assessment over the next few days.  We are in the fortunate position of being able to make the site warm and safe with an appropriate food provision for this limited number of pupils.

Wednesday 1 February 2023 – Day 1 of Industrial Action

All pupils will be offsite and all lessons will be taught via Google Classroom.

Please note – Pupils are advised to attend each lesson virtually and if there is no lesson to join, pupils should complete independent revision. Pupils should aim to join tutor time and all lessons 1-6.

Thursday 2 February 2023

  • All Y11 pupils will be onsite for 8.25 am to sit their Physics/Trilogy mock exam paper during Period 1 & Period 2.
  • During Period 3 & Period 4, some Y11 pupils will be sitting their Media Studies and Enterprise and Marketing mock exams.
  • Some Y11 pupils will receive invites from their teachers via Google Classroom or Google mail (Art, Music & Technology subjects) to remain on site after their exams to complete coursework.
  • If a pupil does not receive an invitation from their teacher to stay behind and catch up on coursework, they are allowed to return home after their exams with a view to being back home for online lessons.

Friday 3 February

  • All pupils will be onsite for 8.25 am to sit their English Language mock exam paper during Period 1 & Period 2.
  • During Period 3 & Period 4, some Y11 pupils will be sitting their MFL mock exams and Further Mathematics mock exam during Period 5 & Period 6.
  • Similarly to Thursday, some Y11 pupils will receive invites from their teachers via Google Classroom or Google mail (Art, Music & Technology subjects) to remain on site after their exams to complete coursework.
  • If a pupil does not receive an invitation from their teacher to stay behind and catch up on coursework, they are allowed to return home after their exams with a view to being back home for online lessons.

If a pupil is unable to travel home during the school day, a study room will be provided for independent revision.

The following will be provided for pupils on site:

  • Buses to and from the college at the usual times from Thursday onwards
  • Breakfast service as usual
  • Electric heating in the rooms where pupils will be doing their lessons and examinations
  • Live lessons via Google classroom from their actual teachers following the majority of their normal timetable (for those not in an examination or catching up on the practical subjects mentioned)
  • A hot lunch (we can cater for small numbers using our electric ovens)
  • Access to a computer and internet

Pupils are welcome to wear non-uniform to help ensure they can wrap up warm and are comfortable – usual rules apply please.

We will update you again tomorrow as soon as we have additional information to share.

Kind regards

R K Jonathan
Headteacher
