Strike Days – 15 & 16 March – Arrangements

Dear Parent/Carer

I am writing to let you know that there is an intended strike by the NEU which will affect Swanmore College on the following days:

  • 15March 2023
  • 16 March 2023

Currently, we have no idea how many staff will be participating in the strike, nor are they obliged to inform us in advance.

15 and 16 March 2023 Arrangements

Year 7 – at home – will receive live lessons from non-striking teachers.  There will be no lesson if their teacher is striking.

Year 8 – at home – will receive live lessons from non-striking teachers.  There will be no lesson if their teacher is striking.

Year 9 – at home – will receive live lessons from non-striking teachers.  There will be no lesson if their teacher is striking.

Year 10 – at home – will receive live lessons from non-striking teachers.  There will be no lesson if their teacher is striking.

Year 11 – on site – will receive face to face lessons from non-striking teachers. In lessons where their teachers are striking, pupils will be expected to bring revision materials for self-study. During P5&6 pupils on Wednesday (usually Enrichment), they will be revising their Literature set-text Lord of the Flies. They will be working in their English groups and will have a series of differentiated independent revision tasks to choose from. The film of Lord of the Flies will also be playing in the classroom. The film is faithful to the text, but at just under 2 hours, it is not possible to show it in a regular English lesson, so this is a bonus revision opportunity for all pupils.

All children in Years 7, 8, 9 and 10 must remain at home on 15 and 16 March 2023 and they will receive live lessons from non-striking teachers.

Please be advised that there will be no late bus running on these days.

I am sorry for the potential disruption to you and to your child’s education. I understand that this situation may be frustrating and that you will have a range of opinions about the strike action. It is important to highlight that this is a national dispute about teacher pay and low teacher recruitment, not local action.

Kind regards

R K Jonathan
