Strike Day – Reminder & Information

Dear Parent/Carer

I am writing to remind you that there is an intended strike by the NEU which will affect Swanmore College on the following days:

  • 02 March 2023
  • 15 March 2023
  • 16 March 2023

Currently, we have no idea how many staff will be participating in the strike, nor are they obliged to inform us in advance. However, based on the numbers of staff who chose to strike on the previous occasion, we anticipate that we can safely invite Year 7 and Year 11 pupils on site on 2 March 2023 only.

2 March 2023 Arrangements

Year 7 – on site – will receive face to face lessons from non-striking teachers.  In lessons where their teachers are striking, pupils will receive a task determined by the management of the college.

Year 8 – at home – will receive live lessons from non-striking teachers.  There will be no lesson if their teacher is striking.

Year 9 – at home – will receive live lessons from non-striking teachers.  There will be no lesson if their teacher is striking.

Year 10 – at home – will receive live lessons from non-striking teachers.  There will be no lesson if their teacher is striking.

Year 11 – on site – will receive face to face lessons from non-striking teachers.  In lessons where their teachers are striking, pupils will be expected to bring physical (not online) revision materials for self-study.

All children in Years 8, 9 and 10 must remain at home on 2 March 2023 and they will receive live lessons from non-striking teachers.

We recommend that you start to make alternative childcare arrangements for these dates just in case we are obliged to close.

I am sorry for the potential disruption to you and to your child’s education. I understand that this situation may be frustrating and that you will have a range of opinions about the strike action.  It is important to highlight that this is a national dispute about teacher pay and low teacher recruitment, not local action.

Attached is some information for your child in case they have a lesson with no teacher present.

What do I do if there is no live lesson available for me.docx

Kind regards

R K Jonathan
