Introduction to pop genres and learn how to research effectively

A category that identifies a piece of music belonging to a certain group due to its style and conventions
Origins
The point and place where something begins
Cross-referencing
Looking at multiple sources to ensure information is accurate
Bibliography
Found at the end of a piece of work, a bibliography provides listed information about any websites, books or articles that have been referred to when writing a piece of work

Understand how to analyse pieces of pop music using the musical elements

The key in which the music is written in. How the notes in the melody and accompaniment part are organised
Time signature
Indicates how many beats are in a bar and how these beats are divided e.g. 3/4, 4/4, 6/8

The speed of the music

The different layers of instruments in a piece, and how they are organised together
Lyric content
The words used in a song and their meaning

To understand how to maximise development as an instrumentalist and how to implement this to ensure ongoing progress through objective and reflective self-assessment
